As a person suffering from Depression, I know how it feels to have people look at you like
you are a burden and I know how it feels to not have a support system when you need it
most. Stigma has affected me in a very negative way. I don’t tell anyone what I suffer
from, I always but on a face for people to see. When you feel that there is no support
system, you fake your way through the illness.
Many people with depression like I, put a smile on our faces and act as if nothing is going
wrong in our lives and act as if we are happy. Depression is hard to get out of. It isn’t
something that we can just get over, we can’ just forget the past. I go from having very
mild depression days to days were I don’t have the strength to smile. Instead I will lay in
my bed and start crying for no reason at all. Over the years I have tried to get all sortes of
help, from medications to speaking with therapists. There hasn’t been one thing to help
me. It either makes my depression worse or does nothing at all. Stigma has made it very
hard for me to come out and try and keeping getting the help I need. Everytime I try to talk
to friends they say its not that bad and you can get over it or Stop living in the past. The
