Creation of the Department of Homeland Security
Just eleven days after the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11th, 2001,
the first Director of Homeland Security was appointed. Tom Ridge, the governor of
Pennsylvania, was appointed to this position. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was
officially founded on November 25th, 2002, just after congress passed the homeland security act.

together to create the Department of Homeland Security, which is a cabinet level department.
These twenty two agencies came together with a common goal to prevent terrorism and protect
the United States. (Murse, 2019)
Two policies that have been created since the formation of the Department of Homeland
