Dehumanization
In a world of temptation, humans strive on the pain of others for self-gain. Sometimes
there is not even anything to be gained. People steal from, rape, harm, and manipulate others for
their own enjoyment. Human nature can be appalling when our savagery begins to define it.
While these qualities may not define us all, Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales largely
depicts human nature in such a way. In his tales, many of his characters display animalistic
