REFLECTION/REACTION PAPER #2 2
Reflection/Reaction Paper #2
This comprehensive article once again brings up the challenge of defining HRD.
However, its focus is on defining HRD in an international context. As I began to think of all
previously learned and discussed topics in this class, my mind wandered back to the topic posed
in reflection paper one: the refusal to define HRD totally. I agreed with that paper fundamentally
and because of that wondered how one could place a definition on HRD period, much less
internationally – covering so many differences and aspects. However, I was proved wrong when
exploring this article. Instead of trying to make a “one size fits all” definition for HRD across the
globe, McLean and McLean (2001) hope that with their research, “the field will continue to
discuss definition, without having to agree on a specific definition.” (p. 314) I truly believe that
this was the best way to approach this challenging topic.
