Cause and Effect Essay (Essay 1)

Objective: The objective of this assignment is to engage students in carefully thinking through the causes
and effects of occurrences.
Requirements: You should include at least three secondary sources and a Works Cited entry in your
essay. The sources should be woven seamlessly into your discussion so that they seem to be a natural
part of it. They should also be documented parenthetically. Avoid beginning sentences with quotations,
but use lead-ins that provide the context for the quotations. The essay should be approximately 500
words.
Preparatory Readings: The College Writer, Chapter 11. By reading this chapter, you will obtain an
understanding of “cause and effect reasoning” (VanderMey et al 161). Some years ago, I developed a
