Ethical differences between Life Imprisonment and the Death Penalty
The criminal justice system is predominantly concerned with crime and punishment.
Whereas social progress has been evident in other areas of the society, the criminal justice
system is yet to catch up with the progress. The testament to this is its failure to do away with the
practices of death sentence and life imprisonment, which both have serious ethical implications.
Noteworthy, death penalty is a sentence where a state takes proactive actions to kill a convict
after the convict has been found guilty of an offense. On the other hand, life imprisonment is
where a convict is sentenced to spend the entire lifetime in jail, with the state doing nothing
