Dear Mr. President,
If there is one man who deserves it, it is my father. He is one of the kindest people alive, you
can ask anyone who has ever met him. He and my mother are facing a very difficult situation now.
We are losing money each month, and dad is so confident that he will get it all back and more
somehow. I am scared. He says that if we trust God all things will work out well. Last month we
had around 70 dollars spare. I have 3 brothers, and a wonderful mother who works full time as a
mom and full time at a local college. Dad works at the college too. He is qualified to work at higher
places and get paid more, but he loves giving back to the community, and he loves influencing
students’ lives and making them better people. He works so hard and puts in so much over time and
no one knows. No one sees what he does, and even if they did they wouldn’t understand the value
of it. He does his job because he loves it, and because it helps people. The year 2000, he kept all his
money in the stock market, when it began to fall. I told him he should take the money out and keep
it, but he said he didn’t want to aid in hurting the economy, and we lost so much. He works so hard
for the school, and has extra jobs too just to pay the bills and house each month. My parents have
always been wonderful, and do not often share money troubles, but sometimes they will say that we
need to turn off the lights more to save money, or use less water. Last Christmas, every day was so
cold because we wanted to save money on heat. I can see the stress on each of their faces, but they
are always still smiling. So many times I have prayed that I would open the mailbox and find that
million dollar check everyone dreams about. I would give it all to my dad, he deserves it. More than
anyone, his heart is pure gold. People can talk to him and in less than one conversation they know
he is one of the most sincere people alive.
I tell you all of this because I don’t know whom else to tell. I know you are a good man, you
have always had our support, and I don’t want to ask you for money. I want to ask you for advice. I
want to ask you what I can do. I don’t like to look at my dad knowing the burden he carries. It hurts
me to see such a wonderful man aching under the weight. In Heaven, he will have one of the most
beautiful mansions, I only wish he had more here on Earth. Mitchell
