Briefly describe acid rain. Do you think a command-and-control, or market-based regulatory
approach would work better to reduce acid rain emissions, and why? (ch. 10)
Genesis 2:15 (ESV) states, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of
Eden to work it and take care of it.” Studies from McNeil and Culcasi (2015) show that our
existence on earth has lowered the land and air quality over time. The increase in acidity in
earth’s natural bodies of water have been emitted into the atmosphere, creating acid rain.
Lawrence and Weber (2017) describe acid rain as the mixture of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide,
by-products of burning fossil fuels by utilities, manufacturers, and motor vehicles, and water
vapor. Air pollution, defined by the pollutants that are emitted into the clouds that can be
