Organizational Change
Some say that change isn’t a bad thing, but in some organizations, I feel that
change can be detrimental to the organization. For example, Polaroid has been around
for generations, however, it wasn’t until recently, that they began making subtle
changes that brought them back from the brink of extinction. They used things and
people like Taylor Swift to revitalize their industry. (Peterson 2014) However on the
other hand you have situations like; Toys R Us, who didn’t change with the times and
they are now closing their doors. (Geib, 2018) Had Toys R Us made a few simple and
minute changes to their business plan, they would still be around, instead they didn’t act
and it cost them their business.
So which way is the right way? I don’t think there is a specific way that works
better than another. I do however believe that not all change is good. I have gone
through 4 directors at the ministry I am employed at. Each has come in with a grand
idea that eventually fizzles out when their drive does; however, this passion ends up
causing a lot of stress and burdens on the associates who have been there the longest.
