1. Describe the data storage industry in China in this case. Include comments on technology
and issues in accepting new technology?
A lot of companies in China are using outdated data storage methods because the creation of
backup storage for valuable data was still a very new concept. Hao estimated that a lot of the
small and medium sized companies were still using primitive forms of data backup. Cd’s were
used by about 20 percent by SME’s, while 40 percent was using external hard drives. The
remaining companies used no form of data back or another unknown method. The larger
companies, who had a larger budget, used integrated backup systems which were offered by
big cloud storage providers. One of the main reasons why cloud computing was not picking
up in China, was because of the fear of data leakage. A lot of companies feared that the
storage providers would go bankrupt because of the underdeveloped bankruptcy laws in
China. Another reason why the consumer had trouble accepting the product was because they
were unaware of its existence.
2. Compare the buying practices of small companies versus large companies with respect
to backup technology.
Large businesses and government organizations use systems integrators more often and are
usually very loyal to their systems integrators because of the consistent work relationships and
high familiarity with their clients IT infrastructure and needs. The regular visits that the
