Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Alignmen: Not Enough
A Deeper Look on How to Attain Curricular Goals
To educators in many schools, creating a system which aligns curriculum, instruction and
assessment may be an obscure procedure to do. They might challenge the necessity for the
alignment of the three components, reasoning that the exercise has little to do with real school
practice. But there is no doubt that there is a need to successfully align curriculum, instruction
and assessment in the curriculum system. And yes, it does help achieve curricular goals. But
the real question is this: Is alignment enough? What are the factors of the alignment are
contingent and need to be considered to achieve curricular goals?
Alignment is the degree to which the components of an education system, such as
standards, curriculum, assessments and instruction, work together to achieve desired goals
