Current Events: Bug Agentes Biologicos
For my current events paper the company I will be talking about is Bug Agentes
Biologicos. This is a truly innovative company that is trying to counter the heavy use of
many harmful pesticides that currently threaten the livelihoods of many different
ecosystems and species. Based out of Brazil, Bug Agentes Biologicos is a ‘green’
company located in an economy that is developing at a rather fast rate, and like the
economy, this company has lots of room for fast growth.
First for some background on the country of Brazil, officially known as The
Federative Republic of Brazil. Brazil was originally claimed as a territory of Portugal
around the year 1500, it remained as such until 1808 when Portugal was invaded by
Napoleon Bonaparte, however shortly after in 1822 Brazil gained its independence and
became the Empire of Brazil.

current political system in place is a federal presidential constitutional republic which is
somewhat similar to the governance system here in there United States in that the
government has three separate branches; executive, legislative and judicial. Brazil has a
president who is the head of state as well as the head of government and is the main
authoritative figure in the executive branch. The legislative branch is formed by an
elected congress that has two houses; the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

Also like in the United States, Brazil has a national constitution which was ratified fairly
recently in 1988 that is considered the supreme law of the land.
Brazil is the largest country in South America both by landmass and by
population. Brazil’s massive landmass accounts for nearly 50 % of the whole South
American continent; this causes it to border nearly every South American country besides
Ecuador and Chile. Brazil’s mass makes it a home to many very diverse ecosystems,
wildlife and valuable natural resources.
Brazil’s economy has been growing at a steady rate and is currently ranked as the
seventh largest in the world by GDP as well as purchasing power. Brazils current GDP is
estimated to be at over 2.5 trillion U.S. dollars. Brazil’s national development bank has
contributed to much of the countries overall economic growth in recent years by
