to Police Absent National Rules” by Asa Fitch. In this article, it talks about the
controversy around the government asking Microsoft to buy their facial recognition
software. The government intends to use this facial recognition software to find the
looters who ruined local cities and businesses during the recent racial protests.
The President of Microsoft, Bradford Smith, released a statement saying, “We’ve
decided that we will not sell facial-recognition technology to police departments in the
United States until we have a national law in place, grounded in human rights, that will
govern this technology,”(Smith). Smith believes that this technology is too powerful for
