1. Goals/Objectives: Rigoberta Menchu’s objective is to have people listen and realize the horrid
life she lived growing up. As a leader she also wants people to realize that her culture is different
from ladinos and doesn’t want to be used in the same context or sentence as them. In other words,
she wishes to never hear the word ladinos, almost as if they are non existence. Therefore, she
fights for her cultures rightful equality and recognition and to demolish the internal colonialism
that has occured.
2. Method–How does the author(s) go about seeking to attain this goal? Sample, procedures, historical
examples, review of existing literature, archival research, case study. At first, in the” Translators Notes”
and “Introduction” Ann Wright and Elisabeth Burgos-Debray interview her and illustrate to the reader the
struggles and how her culture is different to others but not in a bad wayThe author uses her real life
experiences as well as the people of her culture who experienced the harsh way of living. She talks about
how hard it was to live growing up, and how they were always poor. Never once would they pocket money,
if anything they always owed it the fincas or neighbours. Rigoberta also mentions how her family
