What I am arguing is the cultural mythology that southern people are dumb, I am
showing this through family business and how they have become successful. The duck dynasty
series shows much more successfulness then the swamp people show but you don’t need to be a
millionaire to be successful. What I think is working well is the supporting quotes from the
Parenti article. Places I got stuck were expanding the paper and thoughts on family business the
mythology of southern culture was a bit easier to find information on. What I would like to focus
on for revisions is putting the paper better together making it flow nicer. Get more information
about family business I feel that is the part that is lacking in the paper.
Class and family
Cultural mythologies have been around sense the beginning of America. Some might
hold truth others not so much. Many people and by many people I mean some people who live in
the northern states, have an idea of southern American Folk that they are slow deliberate and take

time to make decisions just like Forrest Gump did, he could wait for a bus all day and ramble
about anything. Some people would say southern are dumb and ignorant. In swamp people and
duck dynasty there is proof that southerners are not dumb but intelligent.
The show follows the day-to-day activities for several Cajuns living in the Atchafalaya
River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunts American alligators for a living. The way
these two family business are portrayed are as so, people call the swamp people crazy for making
a living on hunting alligators in a swamp that can eat you alive. What I mean by eat you alive is
people disappear in the swamp because every corner and every river way around looks the same.
Many of the family teams that do the hunting have been doing it for generations; their fathers
