– Dress code.
Wearing shorts to dinner with a colleague is not acceptable regardless of the
weather. Professional relationships are to remain formal. This translates into the
way the way they dress. Italians select their clothing according to the occasion,
person or place they are meeting. Wearing shorts to meet a colleague for dinner is
offensive and disrespectful. As a result, Italians will perceive you as arrogant and
provide poor services.

Italians are not particularly concerned with personal space. Italians communicate
differently. Italians use hand gestures and facial expressions to enhance their
speech. The hand gestures lead Italians tend to be touchy when they engage in
conversation. This form of communication could leave non-Italians feeling as
though their comfort zone has been violated. In contrast to much space will lead
an Italian to believe that you are being distant or cold.
