Fidel Castro (The Cuban President) was aware of the U.S. government’s assassination
attempts on him. The CIA became secretly engaged in a practice of international political
assassinations and attempts on foreign leaders. In response to the failed Bay of Pigs
Invasion of 1961, and the presence of American Jupiter ballistic missiles in Italy and
Turkey, An agreement was reached during a secret meeting between Khrushchev and Fidel
Castro and construction on a number of missile launch facilities started later that summer.
The Soviet Union had started creating more and more offensives nuclear missiles in
response to such invasions by the U.S., they essentially wanted to defend Cuba. While,
America’s motivation was to invade was all based on defending themselves as well and in
a way, both countries wanted to protect their people and land.
The Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 began when National Security’s spy planes proposed to
President Kennedy that the Soviet Union had been planting medium range ballistic
missiles (They used the SS-4 which had a range of 100,000 miles) in Cuba.The General
proposed that in 10-14 days, the Russians will show the world that they can do whatever
they please. So, the President had to act quickly and held countless discreet meetings
throughout the next few days. The missiles were targeting the Western Hemisphere,
millions of Americans would die if Kennedy treated the topic too lightly. President
Kennedy called in key political men (he called this ExCom) to come up with alternatives
instead of resulting to another world war. The strong minded group came up with… “Six
