In this critique, I am going to start by analyzing if the presentation aids used by the speaker, Bill
gates were used effectively while giving his speech “The Next outbreak? We’re not ready” in
2015. To begin with, the speaker starts off his speech by bringing out a large barrel on stage with
him, so he could go back in time and relate this exact barrel to his childhood, where they would
store cans of food and water in fear of a nuclear war. By bringing a tangible object “the barrel”,
Bill Gates increased the audience’s interest, attention, and curiosity to know how it relates to what
he is going to say, and what is the purpose of that barrel. In this speech, the PowerPoint did not
distract the audience, but instead it enhanced further understanding of what he was talking about.
To be more specific, the slides were remarkably simple and clear, the colors used were mostly
white background and black text (high contrast), thus made it easier for the audience to able to see
