1. A young student from the United States is interested in doing international business across China,
India, Brazil, and Russia. Discuss how the knowledge of OB can be useful to the student.
The knowledge of Organization Behavior is necessary in doing business in any environment, but when it
comes to conducting business internationally it can be a crucial tool for someone who wants to be
successful in doing so. OB is the study of what people think feel and do in and around organizations.
What people do in and around organization’s changes rapidly when you enter into another country.
Business customs and courtesies are very different what is very respectful in Brazil can be seen as taboo
in China. Therefor studying OB will give you the tools you need to be successful in knowing what
people think feel and do in the different organizations that you plan on conducting business. To dig a little
bit deeper into the tools that OB will provide for you, you will help the people you conduct business with
be more effective such as acquiring and sharing knowledge, high-performance work practices, working
with stakeholders and social responsibilities as well as ethical values.
2. All candidates applying for a management trainee position are given a personality test that measures
the five dimensions in the five-factor model. Which personality traits would you consider most
important for this type of job? Explain your answer.
In my honest opinion the only two that are important when it comes to being a manager are the
Organizational Citizenship trait and the Task Performance trait. The reasons why Organizational
Citizenship is important is because you are building moral and comradery within the functional area that
you work by assisting with problems, accommodating co-workers and showing genuine courtesy. These
are traits that are crucial to being a good manager in any workplace or organization. The other is task
performance. I think that it goes without being said that if you are a manager, there are going to be some
tasks that you need to perform or else you will more than likely be terminated from that position. If you
cannot get your employees to perform these tasks then there would be negative repercussions. I believe
that the other two will go hand in hand. If you have good organizational citizenship then
counterproductive behavior will go down and maintaining attendance will stay consistent. If you are
performing task, then money will be made within the organization and therefore competitive wages will
