To be a vignette, “Reinvent yourself on a Periodic Basis”, lacks descriptive language. In
the second sentence of the first paragraph, the author employs terms that are too broad for the
reader to understand the main idea and open many possible interpretations. For instance, when
mentioning the name of the vocalists to support its observation, the author should’ve mentioned
what did these artists’ careers have in order to go “on and on” or “fleet like a drumbeat”.
Similarly, at the beginning of the second paragraph the two group of artists’ skills in reinventing
themselves are not mentioned. As a result, it is difficult to understand the difference between the
group of vocalists mentioned by the author.
In addition, in the first sentence of the last paragraph, the author fails to give readers a reason
why scientists and artists are the same at reinventing themselves. Instead of giving details about
the similarities between these two groups, the author only provides a few details about scientists
like Nisbett.
As the text goes on, the lack of concrete information confuses the reader about the true meaning
behind reinventing oneself.
