Title: The Great Gatsby
The Novel the Great Gatsby was one of the most difficult reads that I have had in my
time. Scott Fitzgerald started he novel of with a narrator that was on the outside of New York.
it’s a period were the roaring 1920s. The author created a world where money was everyone’s
own desire. The end of the WW1 which brought the prohibition which made millions and made
the increase on organized crime. Money played a crucial role in this novel as Gatsby had his
prized belongings and his money as he was trying to win over daisy who was a married woman
and a mother. have Gatsby who is trying to live up to the standards of having money and the
trophy wife as he was trying to get daisy. Then you have Nick who was in awe of Gatsby and
tries everything to be Gatsby. Gatsby was a fantasist and he used Nick to help him to satisfy his
concepts and his delusions
These characters are in an endless combat to search for their own selves. They are
thinking that the only ingredient to happiness is through money and possessions. The characters
seemed as they are haunted by their own dreams of themselves which they don’t live up to. They
are living in an artificial world. There is socialistic view in this novel. In the novel, it seems to
happen that capitalism is what destroys many of them. Fitzgerald, makes it as an imprint that
socialism and capitalism do not function because characters either passed away or are unhappy.
Which led to Nick seeing the unethical American society. In these times gender, really gilded a
role women were to be seen but not heard. They were as Fitzgerald seen as award for the man.
