CRITICAL ANALYSIS ESSAY ENG-122 2
Each year in June, many high school seniors find themselves taking a well-earned walk
across a grand stage in hopes of later receiving a four-year diploma, and as the ceremony comes
to an end, some have yet to grasp the true value of the education they just gained. In “Some
Lessons From The Assembly Line” (Newsweek, 2005), Braaksma claims that the value of higher
education cannot be taken lightly or for granted. Even though blue-collar work has supported
many throughout their lives, formal education provides a foundation for the rest of your life and
prepares you for the uncertainties of life. He shows a reader what life could be like with or
without a college degree, that the true value of working hard to achieve what you want in life
always comes at a price, and although you may think your life is secure, everything you have can
be lost at any time due to circumstances beyond your control. Instead of just a summer job, what
he received were lasting life lessons.
