Crisis of liquidity in Egypt
The liquidity crisis occurred in Egypt at the end of
1998 and the beginning of the first quarter of 2000
for several reasons:
1) The government’s entry into a number of
mega projects, which require huge spending
and the importation of huge equipment and
machinery from the foreign markets. This has
led to the outflow of liquidity, which has not
been recycled within the local economy. This
