The death penalty is the result of a crime that was committed that is arguably considered to be
unforgivable. The death penalty is a form of punishment, a punishment that takes ones life away. This
form of punishment has been around since the beginning of civilizations on earth. Is it cruel? Should it
be permissible? These are all frequently asked questions about this topic. I personally acknowledge the
fact that the death penalty is around for reasons such as prisons not being able to fund keeping inmates
and prisoners around for the rest of their lives. Although there are a lot of arguments that people find in
favor of the death penalty, I personally would not want to take someones life away and do not believe
that it is up to us to take it away.
Cruel and unusual punishment is what describes punishment that is considered to be intolerable and
completely unacceptable due to the suffering, pain, or humiliation it inflicts on the person that is being
subjected to it. There are actually tests that guide what judges a punishment to be cruel and
unacceptable; the first being the overall acceptance in society, the second being the severity of the
punishment and the third being if the punishment is arbitrary. Due to the popularity factor of the
punishment, the majority of our nations population is pro death penalty, not all people agree with this
to be cruel and unusual and this is usually justified with the concept of murderers and pedofiles being
the ones that are executed. People find it to be okay, considering that they caused great harm. I
personally understand where they are coming from, but what could possibly be more cruel then taking
ones life away? I understand that some might argue torture, but at the end of the day ones life is the
most precious possession that one has. Taking it away makes no sense to not be considered cruel. I
believe that everyone should without a doubt be prosecuted, but I do not think that the death penalty is
adequate punishment. A big part of my reasoning is due to my faith, I am a believer in God and I am
aware that we all do bad, but I do not believe that we should take someones life and I believe that
justice can possibly be achieved some other way.
A life sentence is when one is imprisoned for life. Life imprisonment sentences are generally mandatory
sentences for first degree murder, usually if it is done during the time of another felony, (aggravating).
Life imprisonment is very pricy. The homeless at times tend to commit crimes just to end up in prison
because prisoners get cared for and fed. I do understand that by abolishing the death penalty and
