2019 was the year of “ima do me”. It was about focusing on the self and not allowing
others to affect the choices one made. To not let the “haters” weigh one down. As we entered
2020, we were faced with the first tragedy of the year: Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna,
among others, dying in a helicopter crash. Now, I’m not saying their deaths were appropriate,
or needed to happen. They, by all means, did NOT deserve that death. But we can point to a
selfish action as a part of the reason for their death. According to CNN, they were flying under
“special visual flight rules”, allowing the pilot to fly in weather conditions worse than those
allowed for standard visual flight rules. The fog that day was unusually and dangerously thick,
and kept the helicopters of two local police stations grounded. If the pilot, or anyone else
aboard the craft, had respected those regulations, the outcome of January 26th may have been
different.
Newton’s laws of motion in physics are as follows:
1. A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion unless
it is acted upon by an external force.
2. The force of acting on an object is equal to the mass of that object times its
acceleration, F = ma.
3. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
These laws are a wordy way to say one thing: what goes around comes around. Not only
can these laws be applied to physics, they can be applied to the philosophies and mysterious
