Covid-19: a blessing in disguise for Pakistan’s
Economy?
The year 2018 was the year of great changes for Pakistan, perhaps the biggest one was seen in
the country’s largescale political scenario. The general elections of 2018 saw the emergence of a
third political party; Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by its founder and former cricketer,
Imran Khan. His election as the Prime Minister was welcomed in most circles of the country
with great zeal. People hoped that he would be able to change the fate of the country, having
promised social, economic and structural reforms. However, the incumbent PM was probably
unaware of the pressing economic landscape of the country, and certainly unprepared for the
measures he was required to take in order to get the country out of the crisis.
