Dear Carnegie Mellon Tumblr Recruiters,
It was great meeting both of you at the career fair today, and seeing Matt again as a CMU
alumnus. I am interested in applying for the Security and Content Intelligence internship for this
upcoming summer. I believe I would be a great 1t for your program because I am a strong leader
and have the necessary analytical and technical skills to succeed in this position.
As an Accelerated Masters student, I have had to manage an overloaded course schedule of both
undergraduate and graduate courses focused in Information Systems Management, Business, and
Technical Writing and Communications- the latter two areas in which I am minoring. My academic
background has provided me with the hands-on knowledge of integrating business practices with
technology in order to deliver results in a timely and professional manner. During my Software
Development Project course, I worked in a group with three other individuals in order to develop a
web application for a local client – The Pittsburgh Kindness Initiative (PKI). The PKI is a movement
dedicated encouraging everyone to participate in activities related to kindness, especially through
the usage of kindness cards. Their objective was to “track” how far their kindness had gone via the
distribution of these cards, which were in dire need of a redesign and a traceable feature. The
deadline to create a solution for our client was around 12 weeks. While this time constraint was
less than ideal, I was able to facilitate daily communication between my team members using
GroupMe and Google+, and created a task breakdown sheet called a GANTT chart in ASANA, a
project management tool. By doing so, our team was able to gain a through understanding of what
specific tasks needed to be accomplished, and who was liable for the completion of those goals.
After redesigning the kindness cards with various 9-digit tracking numbers, we utilized WordPress,
custom Java, PHP, and JavaScript codes, and a back-end database in order to create a fully-
