VI. Issue:
Defendants Mejia-Carrillo and Cruz-Zepeda appeared to plead not guilty in the homicide of Jorge
Martinez.
VII. Case Details:
Jose Mejia-Carrillo and Alexis Cruz-Zepeda. Mejia-Carrillo was charged with the murder of Jorge
Martinez with the use of a firearm, and Cruz-Zepeda was charged as an accomplice. The two were
represented by attorneys Steve Olmo and George Borges. At the hearing I attended, the two
pleaded not guilty, and waived the 10-day preliminary hearing period, but not the 60. They are to
return on May 1 for pre-trial and discovery with regards to set a bail. There is no proof on the
intention of the murder, and if Mejia-Carrillo and Cruz-Zepeda had any relation to Jorge Martinez.
VIII. Holding:
The court has not made a final decision on the holding of Mejia-Corrilla and Cruz-Zepeda Judge
Sandoval currently set the bail amount at $5 million for Cruz-Zepeda and $3 million of Cruz-
Zepeda, however no bail is possible at this moment.
IX. Observations:
I found that the hearing I attended was extremely fast paced. Although exciting to watch, it was
often difficult to understand what exactly is being said by the judge and especially the attorneys
