Courtship and Marriage
Summary
In Chapter 5 which focuses on Courtship & Marriage, we are analyzing corresponding data from
marriage and divorce which include cohabitation, sexual behavior, childbearing and even
women’s work outside the home. We can see that there are many types of alternatives
individuals consider such as living with a partner without marriage, living apart but still
engaging in sexual intercourses, and even childbearing without considering marriage. This is
now a situation that is more acceptable than ever before. The major points to analyze is the fact
that in the start of the 20th century, marriage was more successful than later in the mid to late 20th
