Ego-based principle, rule-based principle , end-based principle and care-based principle are the
four critical principles of ethics. The golden rule of ethics is the last one.
Ego-based Principle (Ethical or Psychological Egoism):
Human acts are primarily egocentric and self-serving. Even when a man donates money to a
charity, his goal is to achieve popularity, which will feed his ego. However, some of the results
of human selfishness, as Adam Smith discovered, may provide social welfare by meeting human
needs. There is, however, a distinction to be made between selfishness and self-centredness.
While the latter is motivated by personal desire, it is not harmful to others’ interests. Selfishness,
