Notes from the meeting:
One of the challenges in defining death is in distinguishing it from life.
One’s sense of mortality is a great source of wisdom. Live each day as if it were your last. Death
has caused many to doubt life’s meaning, but death has always been inevitable. Whatever view
one takes about the relationship between life and death, the two are joined (James Baldwin,
1992). Our analysis of life wouldn’t change, but if we didn’t die our analysis would change
vastly.
-Loss and grief are frequently encountered issues in psychotherapy that are
inclusive of both death-related and non-death related circumstances.
-The boundary between death related and non-death related loss is permeable so
that knowledge associated with each assist understanding each other.
-Therapy is an effective way to learn to cope with the stressors associated with the
loss and to manage symptoms.
-Finding different ways to maintain healthy connections.
-Group therapy can also be helpful to find solace in reciprocal sharing of thoughts
and feelings.
-Using the various stage based models for coping with death.
-Restoration-oriented activities to get back to daily life after a death.
