The course of Corporate Finance aims to equip students with the knowledge of making
financial decisions within corporation or organization. The content of this course deals
with the nature of the three important corporate financial decisions: capital budgeting
decision, financing decision, and decision related to managing short-term assets and
liablities on the daily basis. This course also provide financial fundamentals that are
needed for financial managers and investors in real world such as financial ration
analysis using financial statements, the nature of debt and long-term financing,
alternative dividend policies and firm value, short-term financial planning… Upon a
completion of this subject, students should grasp the basic and modern knowledge of
corporate finance for in-depth study of other subjects in finance or study at higher level
of education.

Upon a completion of this unit students should:
9.1 Knowledge
CLO1.1 Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the nature and objectives of
corporate finance.
CLO1.2 Understand the organizational structure of a corporation; the advantages and
disadvantages of different forms of business and the conflict between shareholders and
management; financial markets and the role of chief financial officers.
CLO1.3 Analyze firm’s financial statements, and understand how to calculate the firm’s
cash flow from finance and accounting perspectives.
CLO1.4 Be able to compute and, more importantly, interpret some common financial
ratios and understand some of the problems and pitfalls in financial statement analysis.
CLO1.5 Understand how a firm’s pro-forma financial statements can be generated and
used to plan for future financing needs.
CLO1.6 Understand the time value of money principles and be able to calculate future
value and present value of a single cash flow, multiple cashflow. Demonstrate
understanding of some important concepts of time value of money such as APR; EAR
and their application.
CLO1.7 Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the basic capital budgeting
methods and the decision-making process for accepting or rejecting projects.
CLO1.8 Demonstrate a basic understanding of firm’s long-term financing.
CLO1.9 Understand the effect of financial leverage and the MM theory of capital
structure in perfect and imperfect market: how debt financing can have an impact on
firm value.
CLO1.10 Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of dividends and alternative
payout policies, and the relationship between payout policies and firm value.
CLO1.11 Be able to describe factors that affect the determinants of working capital
management and short-term financial planning.
