COPING WITH THE STRESSES OF COLLEGE AS A MILLENNIAL 2
Abstract
This paper covers the topic of stress among millennial college students. First, the definition of
stress is covered along with what the major stress coping methods are as defined by the
psychological field. Then, research conducted by the Georgia Southern University Department of
Health and Kinesiology is discussed revolving around the topic of what lifestyle habits and
coping strategies millennial college students create in order to cope with stress; and how these
lifestyle habits and coping strategies may be associated with high or low stress tolerance levels.
Following this debriefing, I break down my own Student Stress Scale results, my personal stress
coping strategies, and what daily life hassles are in regards to stress and how they impact my life.
The outcome of this paper is to provide a greater understanding of how stress impacts millennial
college students from both an objective and personal level.

Coping With The Stresses of College as a Millennial
Coping with stress is something that everybody has to face and manage many times in
their life. Whether the source of stress is from work, school, family, diet, or any change in a
routine, every individual has experienced stress in one way, shape, or form – even if the feeling
of some level of stress is not completely obvious. With the new age of technology, socialization,
and globalization, millennials are experiencing a new form of stress that the previous world has
not seen before. This is especially prevalent within the college environment which is notorious
for being one of the most stressful 4+ years in most people’s lives, and still college prevails in
such nature today (Hales, 2009). So how is college impacting the stress levels of millennial
college students today?
