For this cooperative lesson plan assignment, the objective was to create a lesson plan that
students take ownership of their own learning by working with classmates through
teamwork. The lesson should develop students’ cognitive and social skills. This lesson was
created for a second grade level class that has twenty-one students, two of whom are ELL
students and one student that has been diagnose with ADHD. For my lesson plan I decided
to divide the classroom in seven groups of three. This lesson introduces second graders to
the eight planets of the solar system by reading a big book. After the reading the students
will be placed in small heterogeneous groups. Each group has mixed academic levels and
the two students that are ELLs are paired with bilingual students. Each group has been
assign two planets, for each planet the group has to present six facts and have an
illustration of the planet. Each student is responsible for four facts (two for each planet)
and is assign two roles in the group. After, completing the assignment the group will
present their findings to the class.
