I attended the HBU 2020 Opening Convocation on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. The speaker
was Reverend Willie Davis, a member of the board of trustees at HBU. Reverend Willie spoke of
the unprecedented times that we are living through today and how they compare to the time of
Amos in the Bible. He then states that as students of HBU we represent a group of people that
will overcome these unprecedented times and will fix and build a new and better future. We also
represent the salvation of our community, society, and our future, as well as the promise of life
and restoration. Some takeaways from this service is that the world has undergone times like
these before, and God through his omnipotent power has gotten us through it, and he will get us
through it again now. Another takeaway is that we must strive to be like Amos and stand up for
God and value righteousness as the most important moral attribute.
