This article contrasts two sports teams. However, the “compare and contrast” style is very
different from what you were asked to apply for the Case of Module 2. Which style is more
effective?
In the sports article the author chose two schools and took the approach to show them as
opposites throughout the piece. Each time he made a comment on one he showed how the other
was completely opposite thus directly contrasting each detail of one school against the other.
The style we used in the case study was more balanced and allowed the writer to show both
things that were common and the differences as well which allowed the writer really detail
comparisons. This would allow the reader to see details of likenesses and differences with an
ability to form an opinion and make a choice if necessary.
They are two very different styles; one described the differences and similarities between two
things in order to view one in relation to the other as in the style we used for our project this
week. The sports article seemed to describe the differences only between the two teams and
chose to show Kentucky as far superior to Cornell. One could tell at the end of the article that
