Consumer Culture
Living in today’s consumer culture can be very overwhelming, stressful, and
intense. When I think about what hinders me to buy something, it’s the “I must have it
now” reaction that comes with seeing a great ad for something I want, but don’t
necessarily need. American consumer culture is very fast paced and we are almost
programmed to think that we always need the “next best thing.” Our society is obsessed
with overconsumption and materials, and the media has a lot of power when it comes to
how society works today. The obsession with brands/branding and perfectionism in
advertisements today has influenced Americans and how they consume.
