The Consumer buying process is important for marketers to understand because it is based
off the decision the consumer goes by before buying a product. It also goes off of the
factors that are involved when the consumer is deciding on whether to buy a certain
product. The marketer must understand the consumer buying process in order to properly
bring the consumer to the product and close on the sale. If the marketer is unable to do this
then it will be very difficult to know what the consumers want. One example would be an
advertisement about an anti-depressant pill such as Zoloft. The marketer is using a need
recognition. The advertisement is wanting the consumer to feel that there could be
something wrong with them and by using their product it will cure, or fix the existing
problem they “think” they could be having. The advertisement shows its targeted
consumers that average looking individuals between the ages of 20 to late 60’s that normal
looking people have these disorders and is treatable with the antidepressant pill. So, the
consumer is chasing the desire state because the advertisement is telling the targeted
consumer that their actual state isn’t enough. This then creates the need for the
antidepressant pill, Zoloft. Out of the five step process I believe that the most important is
