Hello classmates,
In recent news members from the House of Representative introduced a bill that would abolish
recess arrangements from the United States Constitution. I know that many Americans such as
myself does not know what this means, so I will break it down in layman term. Recess
appointment is when the United State Senate leaves their position for a break in their yearly
session. During the recess, a higher federal official can be selected and sworn in by the United
States President.
The President of the United States of America has used the “Recess Clause” to fulfill
vacancies during this break to prevent the crippling of the government. In most recent news,
President Obama initiated a recess appointment for Merrick Garland to the United States
Supreme Court. However, the United States Senate refuses to consider his proposal. The reason
being is that President Obama side-stepped the United States Senate by naming key players
which violated the United States Constitution.
Under normal conditions, the United States President nominates an individual and the
United States Senate will vote to either confirm or reject the President’s nominee when a post is
vacant.
Looking at the big picture with about the recess issues President Obama, the United
States Senate and Congress is bickering about can be considered elementary. It is kind of like
when the elementary kids go to recess and they play games where they have teams and they pick
