Connecting Concepts 4 Short Response
A. To start off, the worm seemed to have no effect to the caffeine. However, after 2 minutes,
the worm began to have a negative effect to the caffeine.
B. After documenting the worm scrunches in 30 second increments for 5 minutes while in a
normal state, we poured a 6% caffeine solution over the worm and documented scrunches
of the worms body in 30 second increments for 5 minutes. The worm scrunches during
the first 2 minutes of both tests stayed relatively the same, after two minutes the worm in
the normal state had the same activity level for the rest of the 5 minute test. The worm
given a 6% caffeine solution had much less activity after two minutes.
C. Per the table, the caffeine worm after the 2 minute mark had significantly less movements
compared to the no caffeine worm at the same time stamp. The caffeine worm displayed
sluggish effects after the 2 minute mark as the number of scrunches were steadily
decreasing. When it comes down to a connection between body systems, the nervous
system sends signals to the muscular system resulting in the worm to scrunch. In this
experiment, the caffeine did not seem to affect the worm, meaning there was not an
increase in signals being sent. It seemed that the caffeine presented itself more as a
depressant, while over time the scrunches began to reduce. This can easily be do to the
worm becoming tired.
