Abstract
The conflict analysis of a past conflict while discussing the characteristics of conflict and the
approach taken, how effective the approach was, and the recommended assertive message
approach which was discussed in Looking out looking in by Adler and Proctor II (2016). Conflict
characteristics include the following: expressed struggle, interdependence, perceived
incompatible goals, perceived scarce resources, and interference from the other party. The
approach section of the paper will discuss passive aggression, direct aggression, accommodating
along with the method of conflict resolution including the win-lose outcome.

Conflict Introduction
The conflict that has been chosen to be analyzed as regards to effective conflict resolution
takes place on a discord chat that involves myself and my best friend’s girl who I will call Jane
Doe. It was a cold day when my family and I decided to go to the mountains to snowboard and I
was supposed to be back before one o’clock to go golfing with Jane Doe and her grandpa. On
our way back we got stuck in traffic and I was not able to make our tee time which really upset
Jane Doe. She expressed to me that she was very upset that I could not keep my word of playing
golf with her and her grandpa. I tried to apologize for not being able to make it, but she ignored
me for a week while making negative remarks about the situation to my best friend. After a
