On _02/21/2022_______________ I watched an online performance by the _Detroit_______
Symphony Orchestra called An American Adventure. The performance had a backstage
introduction with the Assistant Conductor, _Michelle Merrell_________________ and the DSO
Live Classroom Edition host, _Damon Gupton______________. Damon is originally from
_Detroit, Michigan_________________ and Michelle is originally from Dallas,
Texas____________. They pointed out that sometimes music has the ability to sound like a
particular place or can remind us of a place. When the hosts came out to the stage, they greeted
the audience and told them that they were about to go on a musical journey around the country.
There would be music from Detroit, Boston, New York City, the Appalachian Mountains,
Mississippi, Missouri, Iowa, Arizona, and California!
The first piece the orchestra performed was performed by DJ and composer Mason Bates. The
name of the piece was “__Warehouse Medicine __________________” from The B-Sides. Some
of the instruments that stood out to me in the beginning of the piece were
__________Basson____________________. I thought that this performance was very lively. It
was not the style I expected from the symphony orchestra. The dynamics change throughout the
piece because they constantly change from loud to soft. It is gradually getting softer while also
