Concert Report 2
I recently attended a concert performance which took place on 2nd of February , 2015 at
Typhoon restaurant near by Santa Monica airport. The band played on that night called
Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra. There are 8 people in this band. They are play different
instruments. Billy Kerr with Alto Saxophone, Lee Thornberg with Trumpet and
Flugelhorn, Jeff Jarvis with Trumpet and Flugelhorn, Nick Lane with Trombone, Mark
Balling with Keyboards, Adam Cohen with bass, Ray Brinker with Drums, and the leader
Dr. Bruce Eskovitz with Tenor and Soprano Saxophones . The band played the Jazz music
that features world-class jazz masters. This type of music makes people want to stand up
and dance with the music. There are two audience danced with the music during one song.
The audience wave their hands and head slowly try to follow the melody of the music .
People can talk to the band about the Jazz when they take a break. People looks enjoyable
since they started the music. And I was lucky that it is also Dr. Bruce’s 60th birthday, so
there is a birthday party during that night. They played Happy Birthday with Saxophone. It
sounds pretty good. They played many Jazz Music during the night. But there were two
song that impressed me. “Breakthrough” is the first song that i want to mention. This Jazz
song is recorded by Cedar Walton, Hank Mobley Quintet on February 22, 1972. This song
has been played by many bands. The tempo is a little bit faster than other Jazz. The rhythm
is a little bit agile. This band use their own style to play this song . They use Soprano
Saxophones as the major instrument. The keyboard as the base instrument. The other
instrument cooperate with each other. The melody is more drifting. Another impressive
song is “ invitation” . This song is the theme music by Bronislau Kaper in his album “A
Life of Her Own” , but it became a Jazz standard by the film which the name is
“Invitation”. The film is about a happily married couple until the wife learns a secret about
her husband. So the song is slow and kind of sad. It makes audience want to sit down and
close their eyes to imagine the film. And it will also make people to think about their own
love story. This band played this song really successful. It is a really good live music show.
