Steve Roach Concert Report #1
For my first concert report I attended Jesse Crosson’s Senior Recital at Sacramento State
University on the 21st of February. I was excited to listen and attend this recital as I played
saxophone and clarinet for about ten years, primarily classical, but I had done a number of
years in a jazz band and had competed in competitions before. music had been a big part of
my life but after finishing high school two years ago I stopped playing due to being too busy
and not having enough free time. Attending the concert felt as if I had gone back in time to
when I was in high school and made me feel nostalgic. Jesse Crosson was the leading voice
for all the songs and he is a graduate of the music program at Sacramento State. A funny
fact he gave us about himself is that he came in to the music program playing trombone as
his primary instrument and hadn’t sung before but ended up majoring as a jazz singer which
I found very interesting.
The concert consisted of eight songs a couple entirely composed by Jesse and others
were his arrangements of original pieces. The first song Jesse performed was named “Body
