COMPUTER NETWORKING
ABSTRACT
Formation of a cross over cable and straight through cable that is going to be used to
connect similar and non similar network devices .
We use the crossover cable to connect two similar devices
Example:
computer and computer
switch and a switch
router and a router
e.g. A computer and a switch, computer and a hub, hub and router.
For this formation of the network cables we were provide with the following tools:
Ø cable stripper –used to strip the cable outer cover
Ø crimping tool-used for crimping the RJ-45 connector
Ø RJ-45 connector which stands for Registered Jack connector. Used to connect to
different components.
Cable-std 568 CAT 6. Which has four pairs of wires
FORMULAR FOR MAKING CABLE
We were provided with standard 568 CAT 6 cable which we stripped using the cable
stripper. It consisted of four pairs of wires that’s:
§ Orange pair(whiteorange,orange )
§ Green pair(whitegreen,green)
§ Brown pair(whitebrown,brown)
§ Blue pair(whiteblue,blue)
In the cable formation it depends on the network components that you want to connect.
Whereby there are divided in two:-
v Std 568 A CAT 6
v Std 568 B CAT6
PROCEDURE OF MAKING Std-568B
After stripping the cable, cut equally the wires leaving an allowance of an inch to the cover
where the RJ-45 connector will fit to the pairs of wires, straighten the four pairs of wires
and arrange them in the following order using your left hand index finger as shown below:
1) white orange
2) orange
3) White green
4) Blue
5) White blue
6) Green
7) White brown
8) Brown
Fit the arranged wires to the RJ-45 connector, which is held while facing you, as the wires
