Abstract
Based on a feeling that there is give and take, believability, likeability, limited supply and
positive feedback from others is what results in compliance. Cults tend to be persuaded
into complying. Compliance is the tendency to agree to do what is requested especially if
there are certain factors present.
Compliance-Cults
Cults, like many other groups, attempt to expand their influence for the purposes of power
or money. Destructive cults employ a potent mixture of influence techniques and deception
to attain psychological control over members and new recruits. Brainwashing or mind
control is what ultimately happens when dealing with this level of control. There are over
thousands of cults and the United States.
Nonetheless, religious, psychological, commercial, or even political could all be traits that
could form a cult. Cults serve their own purposes, which are the purposes of the cult
leader. Cults often will operate with the use of deception in recruitment and the use of
coercive influence techniques. However, based on a feeling that there is give and take,

in compliance (Rhoads, K 1997).
Furthermore, The People’s Temple was a cult like organization that was based in San Fran-
