Comparing Native American Tribes with European Colonists
The European colonization of North America began in the 15th century with the
arrival of the Spanish to the Eastern shores of the continent. Later, several more European
countries began the exploration of the New World. England, for instance, was experiencing
economic distress and poor living conditions. As Captain John Smith said in The Starving
Time, “This was that time, which still to this day we called the starving time; it were too vile
to say, and scarce to be believed, what we endured” (Boezi 22). The colonization of North
America changed the order that was established by the indigenous people who inhabited the
