Introduction
The purpose of this report is to compare and contrast the two Fissure Simulation projects that
were attempted during the Bit563 class taught by Lisa Foster at Walsh College. I will be
comparing the two attempts and discussing some lessons learned regarding the two experiences.
There were some things that went well and some things that didn’t. The Simproject reports will
also be discussed and compared to help substantiate my conclusion. The reports will show how
my decisions affected the outcome of the projects schedule and budget. I am going to discuss
how my decisions as a project manager affected the outcome of each project and identify the
decisions that changed the results of each attempt.
Findings
My first attempt at the project didn’t go so well and I had learned quite a bit running through the
simulation. The first attempt required me to learn my way around the software. Once I became
familiar with everything and where it was at the rest fell into place. I started right away with
assigning member to my team based on the Gantt chart provided. Following the Gantt chart
made things much easier since each week was identified with what task needed to be complete
and how many weeks were projected to accomplish each task. The challenge was making the
right decisions to stay within budget and schedule. The next thing I need to do was create my
budget. The budget items were already identified all I need to do was assign a monetary value to
each of the items. There was already a max value identified and my task was to assign how
much I wanted to spend on the item.
I had made some decisions on the second attempt with the budget that were different from the
first. I was making an attempt to correct the decision I thought I had made with the first attempt.
The most obvious difference was the total budget. I didn’t spend all the money of the approved
budget knowing that I would be going over budget and would end of up using it anyway. Going
into the second attempt I knew I would be making different decisions regarding personnel and
overtime that I didn’t make previously. Interesting that decisions like that come with experience
