Four Uses of Comparative Data in Healthcare
Comparative data is a valuable tool when it comes to management positions in any line of work,
but especially in healthcare since there are so many complex parts to it. It is having to meet
certain requirements in order to be truly comparable. The criteria for true comparability is
consistency, verification and unit measurement. (Baker, 2014) Consistency has its own elements,
such as time frames, consistent methods, and inflation factors. These are all important to
comparative data being used correctly. There is also the process of verifying data, is it
reasonable? Companies use a qualifying person to review the data to see if everything is working
properly and looking at the evidence of the data to see if it is meeting all requirements. And then
there is unit measurements, making sure that all data being used and reviewed is measured in the
same units.
