Comparative Data in HCO’s
Comparative data is uses measured performance to provide a solid basis for business
planning, cost control, and making fiscal decisions. Comparative data evaluates sets of financial
data with similar, consistent, and verifiable data. To keep comparative data consistent, taken into
account are lengths of time, using consistent methods, and factoring in inflation. Data should be
able to be proven, and using the same data, other qualified reviewers should be able to come to
the same conclusion. There are several ways that data can be used comparatively to measure and
evaluate performance, including comparing; budgets with expenses, current performance
numbers to previous performance numbers, comparisons of data to other organizations, and
comparison of data to industry data.
